But I've got a question concerning last 2 seasons.

Is is possible to integrate screenwriters' ideas about Sam from last seasons into this piece?
Or you'd probably prefer to write a completely different one called "How to kill the best obsessive bromance ever by adding cheap hetero streak (early S8) and turning it into total angst with unrequited feelings (mid S9) "?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8904443402702018306.post-43232456462396447562013-10-27T15:59:54.738-07:002013-10-27T15:59:54.738-07:00Hi! Thank you so much.
This may sound trivial, but to me it's huge - I've been so lonely in saying these things, going a little nuts with people whose opinions I respect telling me there's nothing there. And you wrote about those things! I actually have a file of points, and you went through so many of them, and others I didn't think about (like the Bert & Ernie comment and the "why do people think we're gay?" comment drawing the audience's attention to the question). So glad you enjoyed it. The answer, in a nutshell is YES! I will definitely be doing a continuation of this for S7 (and S8 etc). While, as you say, it would be hard to integrate it into this piece (I kind of originally intended to only write about 1-5), I will definitely be looking at the development of their relationship over the last season. Stay tuned :)Pinkwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10845476716515889383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8904443402702018306.post-72747721216795517512012-05-12T10:27:30.857-07:002012-05-12T10:27:30.857-07:00I agree with Anon. Thoughtful, inquisitive and surprisingtly in tone with my the whole majority of my own thoughts.

Having said that, I can't help but ask you: are you considering of continuing it now that season seven is soon to be finished and season eight is a go? Yeah, I know, it would be a bitch to integrate new arguments in between the finished text, but it would really be something like The Definite Guide to Wincest Overviews (or something like that :_D) to have it continued until the very final of the series. The fanfic is a whole world of awesome and the ramblings of hyper fangirls are usually very nice, but having these type of insights all laid out sure brings the experience to a whole new category.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8904443402702018306.post-91184381726144116232012-05-07T05:11:15.865-07:002012-05-07T05:11:15.865-07:00@Anon - Gosh, you're so welcome. I think it's been a fascinating season for the boys so far, especially 7x02 where Lucifer uses their closeness to taunt Sam, revealing Sam's own anxieties about the nature of their relationship.Pinkwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10845476716515889383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8904443402702018306.post-84565765007943905172012-01-08T11:39:34.964-08:002012-01-08T11:39:34.964-08:00I really enjoyed this article; it was very in dept...I really enjoyed this article; it was very in depth, to the point, and clear. While some do not like the aspect of wincest, it is fairly hard to deny. The two of them have such a bond that can not be disputed. Well, yes, I c...Hey nonis! Thanks for dropping by!

Well, yes, I completely agree that their closeness is as a result of the boys' military style upbringing. Everything else being so transient is what fuels that insularity. But where I think it becomes more complex is that their relationship is such that it prevents them being able to form other relationships. They *choose* that existence over any kind of 'normality' time and time again. It could be argued that it's a form of institutionalization, I guess. And you raise a very good point about the lingering POV shots - of course it is about showcasing the Js (frankly ridiculous) beauty. But I think in the early days that gave the text an edge they weren't necessarily going for (at first). I don't think the show would work at all without their chemistry, which was blinding from the get-go. Of course, we're getting super-meta here, but given that the show like to play with the audience and blur the lines so much, I think it's valid to consider that they know their fanbase. While the show skews young male in terms of ratings, they know the most fervent fans have slightly different appetites, and I think the creatives generally succeed in keeping all camps happy ;)

Thanks, so much for the kind words. I think the fact that Dean can't imagine Heaven without Sam is just the most beautiful sentiment. Clean and understated, but completely sums up the core of the show :)Pinkwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10845476716515889383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8904443402702018306.post-92175164037985963162011-12-26T22:58:02.778-08:002011-12-26T22:58:02.778-08:00Oooohhh this is incredible. I've always tho...I really enjoyed this article. I've always thought the boys' relationship was more intense than a "normal" sibling relationship but having been raised in a military or what is called a third culture family, I don't view it as strange or incestuous. It is nearly impossible to explain the intensity of family bonds when every other relationship is, for whatever reason, always temporary.
Also, having worked primarily with men throughout my career, their humor is sexualized in a way that women don't. So I would read less into that than maybe other women might.
I find the boys' 'open-minded' attitude towards their physical intimacy and others' sexuality refreshing. Living together that closely, whatever issues they had would probably have been 'gotten over' looong before we met them and that would inform all their other reactions. Ex. They've sewed eachother's flesh back together, are they really going to be bugged if they see their brother's butt cheek? Probably not.
And let's not ignore the extra long looks at Dean or Sam during s1 are probably a LOT about marketing the nuclear hot of J & J and a bit less about storytelling.
just my $.02
I learned a lot reading your analysis, thank you so much for posting.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8904443402702018306.post-40090401518247032632011-09-16T06:02:35.930-07:002011-09-16T06:02:35.930-07:00@vivi668 Thanks so much for reading and letting me...@vivi668 Thanks so much for reading and letting me know!
